Povlja is situated on the northern side of the island
of Brac. It is about 10 kilometers from Sumartin, and there are 400 inhabitants
in this village. They live from fishing, growing vineyards, growing olives and
tourism. In the ancient times Povalja was an anchorage for Roman galleons. For
the cultural historic monuments we shall mention the «Povljanska listina» that
is the oldest written document wrote in Cyrilic script in Croatian language,
and then there is the Old-Christian basilica that was built in the 5th and the
6th century. The accomodation in Povlja is offered in private villas, rooms and
apartments. For those who prefer active vacation there are numerous sport
fields: football, basketball, tennis, and water sports like diving and sailing.
The hospitable people will always offer you specialties from the local cuisine
and local wines. This place is the destination for tourists who want to spend a
quiet family vacation, and for those a bit younger there is a lot of fun in one
of the local cafes. We recommend you to visit other places on this magnificent
island – Supetar, Sumartin, Splitska , Selca,
Postira, Pucisca, Milna, Bol, Mirca, Murvica, Sutivan and Nerezisca.
